Making the Most of the New iPhone
Written by GoodBarber Team on
Ever since the launch of the new iPhone, we've been working to make sure that GoodBarber makes the most of Apple's new screen sizes.
The changes we've made ensure the perfect display of all of your graphic elements, both on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, but also on all other iOS devices.

Image resolution
Do the numbers 480x320 ring a bell? You may remember that that was the resolution of the very first iPhone, with it's 3.5" screen.
Much has changed since then. The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus boast resolutions of 1334x750 and 1920x1080 pixels, with screen sizes of 4.7" and 5.5", respectively.
Bigger screens with better resolutions... yet another great reason to make even more beautiful apps with GoodBarber! However, in order to let you really take full advantage of Apple's improvements, we needed to improve our product, too - and that's exactly what we've done.
The exact manner in which an image is displayed on a phone screen isn't easy to explain. If you want to know more about how that works, you can have a look that this infographic that gives a very clear explanation: iPhone 6 screens demystified . To be very brief, it's a matter of conversion of mathematical coordinates (points) into pixels, and then showing those pixels on the screen.
In order to allow GoodBarber generate the right images in the right formats, you must provide the images in sufficient resolution.
More specifically, this means that when you configure the design, you will need to use images with a greater resolution than previously. This allows us to rework the images to ensure a perfect display on the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.

The right image for every device
Of course, images with a higher resolution means larger images... and larger images are our enemy :)
The larger the images, the longer it takes for them to load on the phones of your users. It also takes longer to render them the larger they are. However, under no circumstance did we want to diminish the performance of the apps by improving them for the iPhone 6!
That's why we've modified how the images are served by GoodBarber to the devices of your users. Rather than sending a large, full-size image to everyone, and allowing the device to then deal with the display of the image as it receives it, we send an image that's adapted to the device of every user.
By doing so, users who aren't using the latest devices aren't "penalized" by receiving unnecessarily large images for their phone!
